Nathan Flodell knows what it feels like to win. And he’s carrying that feeling straight into his preparation for the 2027 Winter Deaflympics.
The Prince Albert, Saskatchewan native is a returning member of Team Canada Deaf Hockey, bringing with him a resumé that spans junior hockey, international competition, and now a senior league championship. This season, Flodell helped lead the Shellbrook Elks of the Twin Rivers Hockey League to a title after one of the more remarkable turnarounds in recent memory.
“We were 2-5 start of the season. We grind hard and win 14 games a row to get into a playoff spot. This season was all about consistency and buying into the team mindset, and it paid off with a championship.”
That kind of resilience is exactly what international competition demands.
Flodell, 23, plays forward and has skated at every level on his way to this moment. After time at the Junior A level with the Portage Terriers and Flin Flon Bombers, he found his footing in senior hockey and never stopped developing. He now brings that maturity and battle-tested confidence to the national program.
Proven on the International Stage
On the international stage, Flodell has already proven he belongs. He represented Canada for the first time in 2022 and returned for the 2024 Jeff Sauer International Deaf Hockey Series in Buffalo. At the 2025 Winter Deaflympics in Vancouver, he was one of the most productive players on the ice, tied for first in scoring on Team Canada with 14 points on 4 goals and 10 assists across 5 games, while helping Canada earn a Bronze medal.
“My expectation is to help Canada win all of our games and bring Gold home.”
That mission hasn’t changed.
Eyes on Innsbruck
Flodell will be suiting up for Canada at the 2026 National Selection Camp and will represent his country at the 2027 Winter Deaflympics in Innsbruck, Austria.
A championship season behind him. A gold medal ahead of him. Nathan Flodell is ready.
